Anthony Magnabosco is one of today’s rock stars of SE, or Street Epistemology. Anthony has been leading the way in real engagement with believers of all types, and his hundreds (literally) of Youtube videos demonstrate how he does it and why he is so effective.

Anthony is also a leader when it comes to getting other free thinkers to practice Street Epistemology. By running training seminars he has gotten many others who have never performed SE before to become familiar with engaging others, asking relevant questions. Anthony ran a brilliant training session in Denver at the Secular Hub with dozens in attendance.

After putting in a long day of helping others Anthony took a little extra time to talk to the Secular Hubcast. Why does he put himself in front of strangers again and again?

Some come to atheism/freethought late in life while others are born into it. Some poor few never get there at all. Does America’s newest generation of adults, the Millenials, represent a growing body of nonbelievers or a swing back to a more fundamentalist worldview?

Choosing to serve one’s country and think for one’s self at the same time is how this week’s guests choose to live. These two veterans speak about the years they served, where their travels in the service took them, and what it was like being a nonbeliever while in uniform. On July 8, 2017 Seth Andrews visited Denver and the Secular Hub to debut his new talk “The Satanic Panic – The Witch Hunt of the Late Twentieth Century”

The HubCast was on hand to record an interview about travel, work, community and meeting people, among other topics. Seth is well versed in apologetics and well spoken when it comes to pointing out their flaws. His talk was informative, funny, and sometimes touching when he spoke of community and the damage done in the name of faith.

Service to community is a responsibility of all feeling and caring beings. Some members of the atheist/freethought community choose to provide service directly to the most vulnerable among us.

Atheists Helping the Homeless is a grass roots organization active in many communities around the nation. Denver has a dedicated and active group of nonbelievers that provides winter clothing, sleeping bags, food, hygiene supplies and other necessary items to Denver’s homeless community.

The People’s Fair is a 45 Year tradition in Denver, Colorado that welcomes in the summer with an enormous festival of entertainers, artists, and volunteers in a celebration of community. According to the official website of the People’s Fair, it is

The cliche that atheists are a bunch of white men has persisted so long because many atheist groups tend to be dominated by them.

Where do freethinking women go for their community? The Secular Hub is proud of our Secular Sisterhood, a group founded by women to provide a safe place for community, sharing, and support.

In this episode Ruth and Katie discuss what the Secular Sisterhood does, its mission, and what it means to its members. What was the impetus for forming it in the first place, why was it even needed?

Also discussed in this episode; the frenzy of sexual assault allegations, denials, and confessions that has dominated the media landscape touches the lives of secular people, too. Katie and Ruth have a direct and candid discussion on this, and Jesse even gets in on the action to ask a few naive questions.

4 – March for Science Denver

On the 22nd of April, 2017 legions of people around the world marched, taught, and learned together in the name of science, reason, and free speech. Many thousands participated in Denver, including a delegation from the Secular Hub. The HubCast was on hand to capture the energy of this historic event. Jesse Gilbertson and Mike Bouwmeester discuss Mike’s background and his work with the HubCast. Mike interviews several activists at the march and at the teach-ins, including one of the event’s main organizers.

As this episode was recorded on site at Denver’s beautiful Civic Center Park the noise and energy of the event can be heard in the background, and that energy and enthusiasm can be heard in the diverse voices of those participating in this episode.
