Coffee and Community – Episode 69

Sundays are not so holy anymore.  Not if we have anything to say about it.  And so we have coffee and community, a place for nonbelievers to get together.  To share in that tradition and basic human need of community and togetherness is what brings us together.

C & C is one of the Hub’s longest-running and most popular events.  It’s a great way to share a drink, break bread, and share ideas and learn from each other.  Just don’t call it atheist church, thankfully we’re not worshiping or idolizing anything except that blessed molecule, caffeine.

Episode 68 – A Conversation with a Theist Part 2

In this episode of the Secular Hubcast we dive further into the theist mindset to see if it holds up to secular morality. In it we discuss empathy, morality and work through some specific examples to see which world view wins out: the scientific world view or the theistic world view. Our guest Nathan Spears shares his theist perspective with us and answers a battering of questions from this weeks host Paul Schilling.

What is a Secular Conference? – Episode 58

Colorado Secular Conference 2019

CSC 19 brought together hundreds of atheists and freethinkers from around the nation, as well as dozens of groups and vendors.  It was a special opportunity for community, camaraderie, and support as well as the vital exchange of ideas and lived experience on a large scale.

The Secular Hubcast was on hand to capture the moment by conducting interviews with some familiar voices and many new ones.

I know what I’ll be asking folks for the next little while:  Where’s the next conference you’ll be attending?

To learn more, contact the organizers, or buy merch pay CSC 19 a visit at their online home

Please visit the websites or social media of our special guests to let them know you heard them on Secular HubCast:

Seth Andrews, The Thinking Atheist program

Annie Laurie Gaylor, Freedom From Religion Foundation

Shelley Segal, Musician

Episode 48 – It’s Mueller Time! part 2, final

The injury to the integrity of the justice system is the same regardless of whether a person committed an underlying wrong

Welcome back to the thrilling conclusion, Volume II of the Special Report!  In this episode the team discusses the special counsel investigation into potentially obstructive behavior on the part of the President of the United States.

Would you like to watch the extended interview between Donald Trump and Lester Holt on NBC instead of just hearing our pathetic, out-of-context snip?

Episode 46 – Atheist Culture

“There’s no magic and there’s no magical punishments for not believing”

Like any subculture, Atheism develops it’s own art and culture which is meaningful to those within it.  It’s usually the coolest people within the group who do the work to create that art so it’s nice to be able to sit down with someone cool from the group and get their thoughts.

Paul speaks with podcast newcomer but longtime Secular Hub member Dan.  Dan shares some of his background story and thoughts.  They get into some deep and meaningful stuff.  Dan also shares two original songs with the Hubcast, so please enjoy.

Original Songs: “There A’int No I in Murca” and “Monkey Cop”

Guest:  Dan the Man

Episode 35 – Feeding on the News

How do you learn about the world?  It’s impossible to learn about most things directly, so most of us rely on news of some sort.  News.  It’s usually bad, that’s what makes it newsworthy.  How to stay informed then, about what’s important?

We at the Secular Hubcast encourage continuous and lifelong learning.  And sometimes that means learning some of the tough truths in life.  Join us for stories that are relevant to you..today.

Episode 31 – Womxn’s March 2019

LISTEN.  UNITE.  ACT.

Listen to those who have been silenced.
Unite under the banner of anti-oppression.
Act with intention.

The marching continues.

The very talented Regan Byrd   emcee’d the rally in the morning and introduced the many speakers.  She speaks on intersectionality at one point during the rally and the Hubcast was on hand to catch those words.

Later, Chauncey spoke with three who were marching together and they shared their time and viewpoints on why they were marching.  The conversation is smart and powerful and captures the spirit of the moment.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 2019 Denver Womxn’s March!
