FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE SECULAR HUB MARCHES FOR SCIENCE IN DENVER
Denver, CO (April 22, 2017) – The Secular Hub, an organization of the Denver metro area secular community, will participate in the nonpartisan March for Science at Civic Center Park on Saturday April 22, 2017.
Hub members will join Coloradans in support of science and evidence-based policy making. Members will walk in the March beginning at 10 a.m., and they will staff an information booth throughout the event.
Rebecca Greben, a founding member of the Secular Hub, explained that the purpose of the March is “to send a message supporting the necessary and proper consideration of scientific evidence in various public policy decisions.”
She continued, “Mischaracterization of science as a partisan issue has given public officials a kind of permission to reject demonstrable science-based evidence when considering matters of public policy and legislation.”
Members will gather at the Hub at 3100 Downing Street, Unit C, in Denver at 9 a.m. before traveling together by light rail to the march. All are invited to march alongside the Hub banner of “Community – Altruism – Reason – Education.” The information booth will explain the role that community organizations like the Hub can play in promoting scientific literacy.
The March for Science supports a “call for science that upholds the common good and for political leaders and policy makers to enact evidence based policies in the public interest.” The Denver March is one of over 400 satellite marches held around the world in support of the main March for Science in Washington, D.C.
The mission of the Secular Hub is “to raise the awareness of the secular movement in Colorado and provide a physical space for the secular community to come together, learn, grow, and thrive.” Visitors are welcome at public events held each week at 3100 Downing Street, Unit C, Denver, CO 80205.
